Before Erwin Schrodinger's models the only model around at the time was the Bohr model. This model stated that the atom was a small positively charged group of protons, neutrons, and electrons.
Erwin Schrodinger's electron cloud model stated that electrons had no specific path and that they can move anywhere around the outside of the nucleus. although he said that there are no definite paths he believed there to be four main orbits: S,P,D and F orbits.
Schrodinger also made an experiment to prove quantum mechanics in which he put a cat in a tank with a poison and proved that the cat was alive and dead at the same time, and that there was a 50% chance of this happening.
